We only belong because we think we do Free Essays

What if the world was a big disappointment? What if the way the world we espied wasn’t that predictable? The hopes and dreams created to fulfill the emptiness has shifted and molded the perceptions of mankind to think that there is an innate ability to exist with the alliance of others, such as, with people of the same gender, age, interests and most importantly culture. Anthropologists and psychologists propose that Homo Sapiens are not born a self, rather the self is weakened by the surroundings the person is exposed to, known as the ‘significant other’. The significant other refers to ‘nuclear family, in other words the family you were born into that consists of- in most cases – a mother, a father and sibling(s). We will write a custom essay sample on We only belong because we think we do or any similar topic only for you Order Now Thus, external sources have an impact as well, for instance, the ‘modern self. The modern self incorporates ideas such as language, thoughts and status that will cause the ‘self to be ranked. Further elaborating the so called ‘modern self groups those around them into a hierarchy of the cultivated all the way through to the not so cultivates – savage. Whether evolution occurred or not of apes transforming into humans, and whether e agree with it or not, many significant comparisons can’t be obtained from that theory. A significant concept of the human race regarding skin color can be directed to Edward Thorniness theory of trial and error’. What does this theory suggest? Repeated errors continue until success if reached. Error, mutation in the human body repeatedly occurred during the past couple of billion years until ‘success’ was finally reached; the current human body. Yes very debatable, but we can simply take this teary and implement it into our lives. Failure, what does it mean? Most of the time titer depressing, right? However, if failure is viewed from the same angle it was viewed during the study of evolution, it can be life changing. Failure led to success. Which means, technically there is nothing wrong with failing, if you invested a sufficient amount of effort. Sander’s failure to be classified as White’ rather than ‘colored’ was a similar effect of trial and error theory. The back and forth classification of Sander’s ‘label’ is a motive of failure. People such as Sandra that Todd up against the law leaded the failure to success’ in the time now. Through the hardships and discrimination that they faced helped those people in knows society to be respected and to be seen that they are Just the same as White’ people despite the being a different color. The two unlike ideas of the White’ and ‘colored’ society uniting failed, however, Sandra found it less complicated and easier to conform to the black society than the white race, regardless of the disadvantages she had to face throughout time. Sander’s trial was the contrast between the white and black society. The error was being born with the genes she inherited from both white parents that carried black ancestry, which resulted in Sandra paying a price for it; rather then her parents. For many thousands of years the notion of belonging to somewhere or something was and still is a significant issue. The apartheid era in South Africa began in 1652, with the settlement of Jan Van Rebecca. The natives were criticized for their language, which was mockingly referred as ‘Hottentots’, also they were describes to be the lowest of the low[that they adapted] a missing link between humans and pees’. This prejudging of natives exhibited, that the black natives of the country was a class whose weakness was inborn. When the foreigners arrived and observed the native black people they made a Judgment on their behavior that throughout their daily lives of working they were slow people that lacked energy therefore the foreigners concluded that their weakness was inborn. Accepting the native blacks for the Dutch foreigners was a hard limit, because they viewed that blacks low and themselves superior. Becoming a part of a community that suffered with black and white skin color controversy meant a threat was adhered upon the individuals security, safety and shelter also incorporating that these factors are mentioned in Measles Hierarchy of Needs as the most important obligations for ones survival. As the artificial barriers were removed between socioeconomic classes, society was encouraged to build biological barriers, which allowed status to be ruled by DNA. The most obvious roles of skin is the social label it has on the individual. Skin pigment is inherited from our genetic makeup, but those with the wrong genes are placed in an environment where it is nearly impossible to escape from; known as the apartheid era. In most cases it is seen that ‘people with dark skins are, in most places, less successful, less healthy and – perhaps – less contented than those with light. Simply this statement was extracted from â€Å"In the Blood – God, Genes, Destiny’ by Steven Jones who stated the general public that thought this way. Thus, stating the obvious the black people are the ones who brought freedom’ into today’s society. Significant figures such as Muhammad All, Michael Jordan, Malcolm X, Nelson Mandela and Susan Bolt have made the apartheid issue a national problem and brought it to the realization of other people to declare freedom. Belong to a group is a vital need to every individual. However, belonging doesn’t come with ease, it takes trial and error to succeed and keeping an open mind to changes. Throughout history it is evident to conclude that keeping an open mind and acceptance towards others around us will bring success and comfort. Thus, if we don’t learn from the past there will still be controversy and superiority amount groups due to unethical matters. How to cite We only belong because we think we do, Papers

Sonnet CXXX by William Shakespeare and To his coy mistress by Andrew Marvell Essay Example

Sonnet CXXX by William Shakespeare and To his coy mistress by Andrew Marvell Paper Firstly I will be analysing Sonnet CXXX by William Shakespeare. The poem has been written to send a message to poets, telling them that sonnets do not have to be unrealistic; Shakespeare also mocks traditional Elizabethan sonnets. The occasion is that Shakespeare believes in real love not falsely comparing women to god-like creatures. The sonnet was written in the Renaissance era. The sonnet is not traditional to other of that era because he turns traditional sonnets on their head by saying no such roses see I in her cheeks. The only traditional element of the poem is that it has structure of a traditional sonnet. In this poem Shakespeare deals with the theme of love for example Shakespeare uses Juxtaposition to show that traditional sonnet are unrealistic If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head. Shakespeare said this to show realistic characteristics of women instead of false comparison. The emotion and feelings in the poem are not clear but towards the end, especially the rhyming couplets there is hints of love. Shakespeare poem has the traditional backbone of a sonnet of 14 lines and 10 syllables per lines. The sonnet follows an ABAB rhyming scheme with rhyming couplets at the end. Shakespeare has done this to draw attention to his sonnet; sonnets in the Elizabethan era were very popular with people so it had a much bigger fan base. The sonnet also follows Iambic Pentameter of stressed followed by unstressed. Shakespeares poetic devices are cleverly used like negative description Coral is far more red than her lips red this negative because traditional poems would hail the beauty of a women. Juxtaposition is also used to give a sense of reality instead of golden threads Shakespeare uses Black wires this effect is used to give the real image as well as shock the reader. I will now be looking at To his coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell, Marvell is a metaphysical poet who writes physical and spiritual attributes which are with logic. The poem was written in 17th Centuary therefore the language and vocabulary will be different. This poem is about a writer being rejected by the women he loves. The theme of the poem is love and how physical pleasure should be enjoyed due to times passing too quickly. This introduces the theme of transience for example Time winged chariot hurrying near this is used (I need HELP!!!!) The structure of the poem has 46 lines and 3 versus; this might be done to show the emotions in graver detail. The poem is written in rhyming couplets to give the poem a more fluid feel. For poetic device, Marvell uses hyperbole but thirty thousand to the rest. Marvell uses this to show how much in love is in. Marvell builds his arguments by saying If, So and But by using this method puts doubt in the lovers mind. The tone of the poem is very tongue in cheek; this is used to tease the mistress. The imagery of the poem is very striking, Marvell shocks the reader by saying worms shall try that, that long persevered virginity, and the writer said this to convince the mistress to change her mind. Harsh imagery is also implied especially in the third verse, Than languish in his chapt-slow power. In this section I will be closely comparing the subject, themes and style of Sonnet CXXX by William Shakespeare and to his coy mistress by Andrew Marvell. The subject of the two poems is mainly about the experience of love. The common elements of the poem are mainly the humour and reality of love. The style of the two poems is that they both have rhyming couplets but dont follow the same structure of lines and verses. Due to the both of the poems being written at the same era they have the same kind of language and vocabulary akin to Thy, Sunne and Musicke. The tones of the poems are completely different; Marvell poem is very tongue in cheek unlike Shakespeares negative sonnet. When the imagery of the two poems are compared with love they are similar for example Nor would I at lower rate, I think my love as rare. In comparison when compared with death and decaying The graves a fine and private place. My personal opinion of Sonnet CXXX by William Shakespeare is that it is very unique it shows how a real person will feel if they were in love. It also shows real characteristics of people and comparing humans as god-like creatures. My opinion of To his coy mistress by Andrew Marvell is a very humorous in certain lines and verses especially Till conversion of the Jews, the humour in the poem makes the reader to find out what is going to happen next. Marvell brings an element of surprise especially to the female readers Then worms shall try that long persevered virginity this is a surprise because its unexpected. The main reasons why To his coy mistress is better than Sonnet CXXX is that Marvell uses a vast assortment of poetic devices to express the writers thoughts, feelings and emotions. The imagery which I particularly enjoyed was the personification of time in Marvells poem like Times winged chariot it gives the poem a certain degree of urgency. Also the harsh imagery gave the poem a clearer, vivid picture. In Sonnet CXXX by William Shakespeare, the use of ionic symbols of love was strong and unique Coral is far more red than her lips red. The poem which I personally prefer is To his coy mistress by Andrew Marvell. I chose this poem because poem because it tells the unexpected and as I said above it shocks the reader, as well as shocking the reader it brings humour, in my opinion thats what Sonnet CXXX failed to do. But on the other hand Sonnet CXXX is a very unique and untraditional sonnet with it is own style which is hard to duplicate. With regards To his coy mistress you can understand the passion and commitment of the writer in the first and second verses like Two hundred to adore each breast. We understand how he feels because Marvell writes as if he is desperate for his lovers affection.

The SDLC Process Essays

The SDLC Process Essays The SDLC Process Paper The SDLC Process Paper Procedures tend to perform actions as with functions these are reusable Classes Part of the object-oriented programming paradigm a class contains both data and functions that describe a real world thing Objects A concrete Instance of a class complete with Its personal data Abstraction of data One of the key principle Ideas behind the creation of classes In data abstraction the ATA type Is less Important than the operations that can preformed on It In a sense the data type Is hidden behind a Limited number of functions method Predefine code Generally a term describing code that is already written and that can be used in a developers solution with permission this may take the form of a compiled module a call to the operating system or a snippet of ready-made code that can be inserted into their solution b) The OSDL process was designed to ensure end-state solutions meet user requirements in support of business strategic goals and objectives. In addition, the OSDL also provides a detail ed guide to help Program Managers with ALL aspects of IT system development, regardless of the system size and scope. The OSDL contains a comprehensive checklist of the rules and regulations governing IT systems, and is one way to ensure system developers comply with all applicable Government regulations, because the consequences of not doing so are high and wide ranging. This is especially true in the post 9/1 1 environment where larger amounts of Information are considered sensitive in nature, and are shared among commercial, International, Federal, state, and local partners. The seven-step process contains a procedural checklist and the systematic progression required to evolve an IT system from conception to disposition. The following descriptions briefly explain each of the seven phases of the OSDL: 1. Conceptual Planning. This phase Is the first step of any systems life cycle. It Is during this phase that a need to acquire or significantly enhance a system Is identified, Its feasibility and costs are assessed, and the risks and various project-planning approaches are defined. Roles and responsibilities for he Asset Manager, Sponsors Representative, System Development Agent (SAD), System Support Agent (ASS), and other parties In OSDL policy are designated during this stage and updated throughout the systems life cycle. 2. Planning and Requirements Definition. This phase begins after the project has been defined and appropriate resources have been committed. The first portion of this phase involves second part is developing initial life cycle management plans, including project planning, project management, Configuration Management (CM), support, operations, and training management. 3. Design. During this phase, functional, support and training requirements are translated into preliminary and detailed designs. Decisions are made to address how the system will meet functional requirements. A preliminary (general) system design, emphasizing the functional features of the system, is produced as a high-level guide. Then a final (detailed) system design is produced that expands the design by specifying all the technical detail needed to develop the system. 4. Development and Testing. During this phase, systems are developed or acquired based on detailed design specifications. The system is litigated through a sequence of unit, integration, performance, system, and acceptance testing. The objective is to ensure that the system functions as expected and that sponsors requirements are satisfied. All system components, communications, applications, procedures, and associated documentation are plopped/acquired, tested, and integrated. This phase requires strong user participation in order to verify thorough testing of all requirements and to meet all business needs. 5. Implementation. During this phase, the new or enhanced system is installed in the production environment, users are trained, data is converted (as added), the system is turned over to the sponsor, and business processes are evaluated. This phase includes efforts required to implement, resolve system problems identified during the implementation process, and plan for statement. 6. Operations and Maintenance. The system becomes operational during this phase. The emphasis during this phase is to ensure that sponsor needs continue to be met and that the system continues to perform according to specifications. Routine hardware and software maintenance and upgrades are performed to ensure effective system operations. User training continues during this phase, as needed, to acquaint new users to the system or to introduce new features to current users. Additional user support is provided, as an ongoing activity, to help resolve reported problems. 7. Disposition. This phase represents the end of the systems life cycle. It provides for the systematic termination of a system to ensure that vital information is preserved for potential future access and/or reactivation. The system, when placed in the Disposition Phase, has been declared surplus and/or obsolete and has been scheduled for shutdown. The emphasis of this phase is to ensure that the system (e. G. , equipment, parts, software, data, procedures, and documentation) is packaged and disposed of in accordance with appropriate regulations and requirements. Each column in the graphic represents an individual phase. The documents in each phase are created and maintained throughout the rest of the development cycles until the final disposition of the project. Although this indicates the process is linear, it is not. It is iterative and once a project is deployed, the management of the project may return to requirements gathering to start all over again.

Arab Americans Populations by State

Arab Americans Populations by State As a bloc, the 3.5 million Arab Americans in the United States are becoming an important economic and electoral minority. The largest concentrations of Arab Americans are in some of the most contested electoral battlegrounds of the 1990s and the 2000s - Michigan, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia. In the early 1990s Arab Americans tended to register Republican more than Democratic. That changed after 2001. So have their voting patterns. The largest block of Arab Americans in most states is of Lebanese descent. They account for a quarter to a third of the total Arab population in most states. New Jersey is an exception. There, Egyptians account for 34% of the Arab American population, Lebanese account for 18%. In Ohio, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania, Lebanese account for 40% to 58% of the Arab American population. All these figures are based on estimates by Zogby International, conducted for the Arab American Institute. A note about the population estimates in the table below: Youll notice quite a disparity between the 2000 Census Bureau figures and those of Zogby in 2008. Zogby explains the difference: The decennial Census identifies only a portion of the Arab population through a question on ancestry on the census long form. Reasons for the undercount include the placement of and limits of the ancestry question (as distinct from race and ethnicity); the effect of the sample methodology on small, unevenly distributed ethnic groups; high levels of out-marriage among the third and fourth generations; and distrust/misunderstanding of government surveys among more recent immigrants. Theatre Critique Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1

Theatre Critique - Essay Example The paper describes the music and the story which blended well together and it did not seem at any point that the music was juxtaposed forcefully within the play. Also the director was able to develop a strong coordination between the actors when no one was impressed with the acting skills of Tommy DeVito and Bob Gaudio since they seemed out of character at different points of the play. This, however, did not majorly impact the pleasurable experience. The paper emphasizes the attention that the director of the play had seemed to put a lot of effort within the play with his focus on detail. It seemed that the director had meticulously planned each part of play and the different part coordinated well in the final piece. In conclusion, the paper says that Jersey Boys is a play worth watching, especially when one wants to develop an understanding of the way successful plays are created. The most remarkable part of the play was the way the different elements of the theatre worked in synergy with each other. The actors completely understood the time era in which they were acting and this was evident in the way they developed stereotypical models of that era. From the lighting to the costumes, the play came together as a convincing performance. Each actor seemed to have a certain musical signature which helped bring out the character of that actor. This was particularly important in a musical play and for me, this attributed to the success of the play. In plays revolving around music, the audience comes to appreciate the music along with the acting. The director also seemed to have a good knowledge of the musical instruments of the pop era and used them sparingly throughout out the play, thus, developing the mood of the music as well as the era.

Soft Commodity (News Letter Form) - Research Paper Example 4). Additionally, production shifted from Gulf Coast regions to more efficient growing areas. However, due to the decrease in demand in rice during 2008, the price of rice has significantly increased. But with the aid of the structural changes, the US rice industry has managed to cope and since then the trend of the demand has normalized. Currently, rice is valued in the market at $578.36 per metric ton. According to World Bank’s bi-annual Global Economic Prospects (26) report, a decline on the prices of global prices of farm commodities should be expected in 2012 by up to 11% mainly due because of the slowdown in demand and improved supply prospects. Although returns to rice production are highly variable and fluctuating, the trend is being controlled with the substantial structural changes that are being implemented in order to balance these factors. In the years to come, as the World Bank has predicted, rice prices will continually drop. And unlike other agricultural products, the rice industry has enjoyed a decline in its
